Book Blogger Hop
So I’ve decided to take part in the Book Blogger Hop this week as the question was one I found quite interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing everybody’s answers.
What do you do with books you no longer want? Do you donate them? Do you take them to a half-price bookstore? Does a friend or family member benefit?
For me, the main thing I do is donate them. There are multiple charity shops near me and as they’re where I buy a lot of my books, I find it only fair to donate the ones I don’t want. My city also has a charity that provides books to homeless readers and so I’ve donated to them too although they only accept paperbacks in good condition and as I buy many books used, they’re often not good enough quality.
A lot of my books from when I was younger were all given to my half-sister and I’ve done one giveaway on Twitter with a book I loved. I’m also planning on attending some book swap events as I’ve done that before and it was a fun way to both get rid of a book while getting a new one.
Great post! I donate many of mine as well. Usually right back to the Goodwill where I buy a bunch of books. This shop is really incredible! The quality of their books are 80% brand new! Of course there are others that have been very well loved. But I’ll go in there and find a hardcover in great condition for just $1! It’s so lovely!

I’m super lucky that my city has so many used bookstores so if I have time then I can usually find anything I want in them and if not, I’ll get used ones from Amazon pretty cheaply. I’ve had to start only taking cash when I go buying used books otherwise I’ll just spend far too much (or rather buy far too many and be unable to carry them all!)

Same here. I donated them. I read mostly ebooks (kindle) these days, so I don’t have to collect them. Sometimes I borrowed my friend’s. 😁

Yeah I’ve started reading more on Kindle too – it means that every so often my BF and I swap Kindles so we can “borrow” books from each other.

I really want to go to a book swap, but they are rarely held in my town. I need to start my own, I guess. 🙂

It’s the same where I am, so I think I’ll try and organise some myself via Meetup as that shouldn’t be too difficult.

I totally agree with you — donating to charity and/or used bookstores is the way to go. In the city I live in, located in the USA, there are several Goodwill stores. I donate to the one located closest to me. I’ve also given away a few books through my own blog giveaways.
How WONDERFUL that your city has a donation service for homeless readers!! I wonder if mine has any such program. If they do, I will certainly start donating to it!
Thanks for sharing!! It’s nice to see some new blogs joining in! Welcome!! ❤ : )
